No way, u made that up? You had to, it's just too much for me to fathom. 28K!! I cannot believe that.
Wait let me read that all again.
But is it not still 3 more hours to the official announcement?

After watching the Brochure openmouthed (what a word) I turnd arround to my Wife and said: "I'll go the Interchangeable 3D Way"
And she only nodded (also openmouthed ;-) )

I hope RED hasn't jumped the shark. I don't need ten trillion cameras, I just need one good one.

Also if I use this as a stills camera, where do I attach my Pocket Wizard flash trigger?

I'm dying to hear Stu's thoughts on all RED's choices.

Also how are all these "blocks" going to communicate?

And they better connect very tightly or the camera will be like a wobbly Lego Tower.

9K??????? That is insane!

28K!!!??? How on this earth are you going to be able to edit footage that large, and is there anything that can play at that resolution? This makes IMAX look like DV.

THUMP-Crunch. The sound of my jaw hitting my keyboard.
This is nuts. I think I'm in love.

Pretty cool but I think some of the other comments are right that this may be too many combinations of product.

My take is that few people are interested in an interchangeable mount 2/3" camera-just look at the number of HPX-3000s sold. I doubt many folks have a huge interest in 6K or 9K acquisition at 100 fps for video or film production.

On the plus side the S35 Scarlet looks like a nice way to go. You could probably outfit this nicely for about $12K with a decent lens and accessories.

Most folks are complaining that the price is too high but I really like the obsolescence-proof strategy. I have a number of Canon still lens and own a Rebel and a 20D, with a 5D mkII on order. I am about to sell the 3 year old 20D for about $200 bucks because it just isn't worth much anymore with so many Canon models having come (and gone) since I bought it just 3 yrs ago. In 3 years, the camera depreciated $1200 dollars or 80% of value. Ouch!

Jim's system approach makes a lot of sense because folks buy a system and stick with it year after year. If in 3 years, I could just replace the sensor module or get higher quality recording with a new record module, then you aren't having to throw out the whole camera and start over.

Sorry for the slight aside. Sean, this is to to complete ignorance. Everyone that is currently buying a brand new EOS Rebel for $400, should be buying your 20D for $600. It ignorance on the buying side and ignorance on the selling side. I watched my 1DsII drop to being worth under $4000.

But this doesnt exist in the video camera world. Look at the Sony VX1000. This is a 14 yr old crappy handicam that STILL sells for $1500 used. I bought a DVX100B for $3500 the week they came out. 2 years of use later and I sold it for $2400. I got two years of rental for $1000. I then got an HVX for $5000. Sold it a year later for $4300. A years rental for $700. I just bought an HMC150. I plan on keeping it until just before Panasonic's next HMC level camera comes out then upgrade again.

I'm upgrading from great camera to great camera, and I'm doing it at a FRACTION of Red prices. They aren't the only ones with an upgrade plan.
