For the Record Canon
I’ll take one of these:
This 50mm f/1.2 cappuccino cup is in response to the fabulous coffee mug that looks like a 70–200mm lens, which Canon was giving out at the Winter Olympics to people who had better watch their back when I’m around.
By the way, there’s a new version of the popular zoom lens that I want almost more than I want another cappuccino. Pre-order it now and I get a little closer. To the cappuccino.
Canon 70–200mm f/2.8L IS EF II USM lens available for pre-order at Amazon.
What’s new about the 70–200 II? It is said to be sharper, faster to focus, and have improved IS over the original. That said, the original is a terrific lens. Here’s a shot I made with one.
More info on the mug that started all this here.
Thanks to ProLost reader Alex Turner for the heads up: The Mug is now available for pre-order from Vistek.
Numerous folks have also pointed out the 24–105 “ice cream cup” (is that a way of saying that it will melt and give you cancer if you put hot liquid in it?) is available on eBay.
Personally, I like my mugs f/2.8 or faster, so I’m going with the 70–200.
B&H has the 70–200 Mark II in stock now.

want!
What's the difference between this new 70-200mm and the old one? Besides $1,200. They're both IS?
Have you seen this video from Stargate Studios about using the Canon DSLRs for shooting driving plates for compositing into green screen scenes?
http://vimeo.com/9243537
Judging by how they drove, they must have full control of the streets. If you look at the driving demo video, I guess they're not just shooting generic footage, but scripted scenarios for specific scenes. I'd love to know more about the whole process from planning through post.
Lucas, see update above.
Thanks Stu.
stu , is IS important for shooting video, or that's just for photo... thanks . I can't decide what should i buy IS or non-IS. I wanna use it just for video..
The IS on the 70-200 has two modes, and Mode II can be used in video mode. Is it important? I'd say no, because you probably shouldn't use this lens handheld anyway, and you'd definitely want to take the IS off when using sticks.
That said, sometimes you get stuck doing what you shouldn't. I used the old 70-200 handheld in Tokyo and the IS was helpful.
And for stills its a godsend. So I'll be getting the new one.

How about this: a Canon 5D USB drive:

thanks Stu
Hi Stu and all,
Stu what are you using at this time for you main kit lense...(granted the one needed for the shoot) but if you take just one lense which one would it be ?
Also Any info on if Canon will update the firmware for the 7D and 1D ?
We still need lenses with power zooms and shot boxes...to make it easier for one man shoots...and for more infield flexibility.
I also pray every night that Canon will see the light and use some sort of Raw or high profile AVCHD format to allow 10 bit or better with at least 4:2:2...
That would be so welcome for posting footage... Rob thanks for the link!
My general-purpose zoom lens is the 24–70 f/2.8L. That's what I used to make the photo above.
I want one of those coffee mugs badly!!
Umm so this isnt a real cup? Confused how did you fabricate this photo?

btw just incase you haven't seen this 24 - 105mm f4 canon lens cup you may want to order one!
If you look at the reviewof the original on dpreview.com you'll see that at 100mm f/8-f/10 the original 70-200 is nearly perfect. I liketo use this lens around 85-100mm, so it generally works out quite well for photography. ...for cinematography, well...you're going to take a hit at f/5.6 but it's not bad.
I've got a 50mm 1.8 I don't use anymore because the focus ring is dead. If you want to turn it into a cup, it's all yours !
