Four Years of ProLost
Today.
Four years ago I started this blog. At the time I worried that it would either be a big mistake, an abandoned project, or unappreciated.
The vote's not fully in yet, but I don't think it's any of those three things. And that is, of course, entirely due to you, the reader. Like playwright Edward Albee, I write to find out what I'm thinking. Knowing that you'll read it, ponder it, call me out on my bullshit, and challenge me to think harder makes me do this.
So thanks. Until I lose interest in thinking, I might just keep writing this thing—but only because you make it worthwhile.

Thanks for 4 years of raising the level of discussion, for taking the time to post and for not talking down to the reader. In short thanks for the posts
Mike
Congrats on the four years :) I enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for sharing your insight and knowledge...It's greatly appreciated!
Thank you for sharing with us like you do Stu.
Thanks, Stu. For the last year or two you and your approach to filmmaking have been an inspiration to me. Thanks for doing all you do, and for challenging others to follow in your footsteps. Keep up the great work.
Wow, four years, that's quite a blog achievement.
Frankly, Prolost is one of my favorite blogs right now, I love the depth you bring to all of the topics you talk about here and for as long as you're writing I will definitely be reading!
thanks for the info you provide 5tu! Keep rocking it hard! Cheers, Dave

thanks Stu.
Hey Stu
Thanks for making me feel stupid :)
Seriously, every time I read one of you posts it makes me realise how much I need to learn, but thanks for taking the time out to pass the knowledge on... not a drop is wasted!
Thanks and Congrats for four years of really good and deep thought blogging.
And by the way, thanks for doing your DV Rebels Guide too :-)
Hey Stu, your energy definitely was _not_ wasted, your blog still is one of my favourites simply for the depth of discussion and subjects that you don't find in many other places. Keep it up!
I'd echo the things everyone else has said in their comments - It's great that you're still walking between ultra high end and low fi agility at this stage and sharing the knowledge along the way - you've no idea how great it is to have access to the mind of someone at your level. Congratulations and rather selfishly, long may it continue.
Thank you Stu, for your book, for the community you've built, and definitely for your blog, that has managed, through the force of invaluable posts, to produce the most pavlovian "must-read" reaction the moment a new post pops up in my feed reader.
Here's to many more years Stu!
Having the best time filmmaking thanks to you.
Cheers
Stu, I never, ever miss a post. Love your blog!
Please don't stop, please, ever.
Stu,
Thanks for upkeeping the blog. From those of us who were introduced to you by the first article in Res, muchas gracias for the continued shared knowledge.
I'm canceling my internet connection if you cancel your blog.
This is my first post, because at this point in my learning my thanks is all I can contribute. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has silently and greatly benefited from your knowledge and enthusiasm. Thank you!
Thanks, Stu, from Argentina.
I've learnt a lot from this blog. The kind of stuff you always try to, but never found where or when to do, without messing your schedule or budget.
Thanks a lot.
thank you for sharing with us...
cheers!
Your efforts are certainly worthwhile and appreciated. Sounds like you keep a lot of us thinking. True proof of how valuable Prolost is, is that it holds prime real estate on that hallowed ground of my Safari bookmark bar (along with Rebel Cafe.)
Congrats and thanks for all the insight, thoughts and inspiration you have provided here.
Thanks so much for all your assistance Stu - you've been a great help! I never miss a post. A special thanks for the book, I plan on referring to it often when I make my film on my brand new HV30. I hope we meet some day (again, actually - I met you briefly on an elevator when the fledgling Orphanage was sharing an office with Res on 50 Oak Street in SF).
Congratulations, Stu! Four years is awesome -- and there have been a lot of changes in Rebel equipment during that time. You'll always have something to write about!
Stu -
I am a much better digital filmmaker because of The Guide and this blog. The technical and theoretical discussions have greatly expanded my understanding of our art.
Oh yeah, last time I chimed in here, it was leading up to Austin's 48 hour film project, when I got some great last minute technical advice. Here's my writer/co-producer's http://www.jimmypribble.com/blog/2008/06/49-hours/" REL="nofollow">blog entry about the event. It was a blast, and we ended up with some great shots (you'll see some screen grabs in the blog) but not necessarily a great short film... I didn't even have time to watch the full short film before we submitted it (an hour late...).
Anyways, the short couldn't have been made without everything I've learned from you, Stu. Thanks a million!
Congrats from Munich (Germany) too!!
I´ve not been reading for the whole 4 years but even in this short time of me making video I learned quite a few things from your website, so Thank You!
Patrick
Thanks for your blog, so pro, so interesting, that I follow since the beginning. Hope you will still stay online for many years!

Man....I am logging on for the first time here just to leave you a big thank you. Now that I'm here I aint going nowhere.
Thanks for being you and always challenging yourself which in turn challenges us to follow and learn. your ideas have sparked a million more in me and helped adjust the way i think about certain aspects of film making and technology in general.
whether Digital Still, RED, HV20 or whatever, you help give insight that strips away the crap and leaves the good stuff.
4 More Years!!! 4 More Years!!
Great blog, Stu, please keep it going!
Thanks for your valid 4 years of service to VFX and SFX community which you had from ILM & self-learning. I would like to have post from you about Log vs Linear and how to use them.
Whoa brother, what's this business? I bought the Guide, wake up in cold sweats being chased by log demons in a linear world, and drop hugely technical quotes from your blog on unsuspecting filmies the way E! PA's drop A-lister names at raves. I have a 5" HDRI silver ball (well OK, its now in the aquarium) and more blue/greenscreen shots of friends than I can ever hope to make into...well, something cool. In short, what do you expect me to do if you stop writing, get a hobby or something? Geez. Shit, I even made some miniatures. You know, just a suggestion, but how about you do a film and use the blog for production notes? I'll bet 7/10 folks on this blog would pitch in for free...
Thank YOU for taking the time to express your thoughts openly.
This is a great blog. I enjoy it very much.
Congratulations on four years.
(And THANK YOU for writing The Guide.)
Congratulations! Keep up the great work, Stu!
Thanks to you =P
Don't give up, don't ever give up. Seriously, don't. You're the only connection to an industry I desperately want to be in. Thanks.
Stu, I heard you speak at NAB 2007 at the CS3 launch and found this blog and the DV Rebels Guide a short while later. Both have been THE BEST references out there for cutting edge digital filmmaking. Thanks! Your posts are inspiring and thought provoking. Cheers, Will.
BIG thanks from Norway!!!
