BG Renderer

Lloyd Alvarez has released a script that allows you to render in the background while continuing to work in After Effects 7. If you have a multi-core or -proc machine, you can render multiple frames at once for a substantial speed boost, all without any noticeable impact on your interactive work in the foreground.

Since The Guide recommends conforming your film in After Effects, which inevitably leads to some serious render time, this script is a DV Rebel lifesaver. It's also a glimpse into the largely untapped power of After Effects scripting. Nice work Lloyd!

how does this compare to say nucleo pro?
or is this just a way to do it for free :)

Jason,

BG Renderer does mimic one aspect of Nucleo Pro's functionality, but to me the main selling point of Nucleo Pro is the speculative filling-in of your comp timeline while-you-work. If you haven't tried that out you really should -- it's insanely cool.

does this allow you to have multiple render instances happening at once? So if you have a large render that's going overnight, you can run an additional instance with this to take advantage of the other proc or core?

Thanks for the props Stu. Glad to see that you see this as a helpful tool to the Rebel's toolkit. :-)

Nucleo Pro is awesome - I just ordered a copy.

ALL video editing+MoGfx tools should work that way. If iMovie can do it (render while you work)...

Love the script though, a very creative solution.
