Rebel = Late

Like I said, The DV Rebel's Guide will be shipping on December 26. Oops.

The good news is that I've seen it in person, and it is real! It has pages and everything. So while you won't be greeted with one under your tree come Christmas morning, at least you'll know just what to buy with that Amazon gift certificate!

Late = Better?

Yeah, that's it. It's going to be better because it's being made more content rich. Right? Riiiight.

Holy cow, I just remembered you're the star of today's Film Making Central's podcast. Type to ya later.

Bruce

PS - Another delay for Rebel and there won't be a need for special mayhem effects. Capisce?

Hopefully the rest of us will have it on December 27th!

Unless there is some kind of super-secret spot in the Bay Area where the book is available for purchase three days early....

Still. Not. Here.

Sorry, Stu, but it's time to start kicking some Peachpit Publishing tokus. Let 'em know your fans are mad as hell and aren't going to take it any more. Or for too much longer, anyway. Probably. Maybe. Well, as long as it doesn't involve any activity on our part other than spouting vitriolic blather in comments on convenient blogs.

Yeah, that will learn 'em!

latest from amazon is shipping December 30th and arriving January 2nd.

aaaahhhhhh!

Well that is a total bummer. I got a big box of them today, so I don't know what Amazon's problem is. Maybe some local bookstores also got theirs today?

Sorry for all the bait and switch. I wish Amazom subscribed to the under-promise/over-deliver school of thought.

December 27, 2006 | Unregistered CommenterStu

Yes a big bummer. BN shows it shipping Dec 31. Peachpit.com shows your book as not ready to order.

All is not lost, though. I did order the "Zombie Survival Guide" and some other zombie books. ;-)

Did your box arrive from Peachpit Press? I'll shake some trees tomorrow and see if I can find the book here in the SF Bay Area.

It's not like they're in the visual FX business where this is common practice :-)

Well Stu,

I have done the deed.

I didn't get the book for xmas but I purchased it with a B&N giftcard I recieved at work. Can't wait for it to arrive on my pretty little doorstep.

Viva la guerilla filmmaking!

Is amazon nuts? They just revised my ship date to March 1st. 2007. BN now shows the book ready to order on January 9th.

Okay...so now I will actually call some local stores to see if they have any stock.

In the meantime to cheer myself up I went over to Red Giant and purchased the Magic Bullet Suite and Colorista!!

Wow guys, I have no idea what's going on. I've got my "author copies" in a box right here, so I know the printer has shipped them days ago. When Peachpit opens on the 2nd I'll get to the bottom of this.

December 31, 2006 | Unregistered CommenterStu

Hmmm. I ordered back in May, and Amazon is still showing me with a Jan 2 ship/ Jan 3 delivery date (knock on wood). Maybe there's a small supply, and they're doing a first-come first-serve type thing 'til more arrive?

Hey! Happy New Years Eve Everyone!

In another post Stu suggested that we call some local bookstores. I decided to have a beer and call and inquire about The Guide. Here are my findings:

1. Cody's bookstore, Berkeley CA. They didn't answer the phone...took opportunity to get another beer.

2. Cody's bookstore, San Francisco, CA.

Cody's order guy, "Oh you have an iz-been number!
Me, "Yes, I do"
"Give it to me!!"
"0321413644"
"Hmm. Ok, that is the "DV Rebel's GDE by Maaashh-wits. That's funny, what is GDE"
"That would be Guide"
"Oh. Well we don't have that in stock. Actually it's not any of our warehouses either, so I can't even order it for you. Is that all?"
"Yes"
"Goodbye"
Took opportunity to have another beer

3. Borders Bookstore, Emeryville, CA.

Me, "Hi, I'd like to see if you have a book in stock. I have the ISBN number."
Orderrr Grrl, "No. I don't want that. Just give me the title."
"DV Rebel's Guide"
"Is Rebel's plural?"
"No, it's a possessive"
"When you say dee-vee, do you mean DV as in 'David-Victor'?"
"Yes DV"
"So this is the DV Rebel's Guide...by May-swits?"
"Maschwitz"
"Well, we don't have this. We don't carry books that are out of print"
"It's not out of print; it's just been published."
"Well. Sometimes a book is published and then it goes immediately out of print."
"This is a new book"
"Oh, I see this book hasn't been released yet."
"Yes. This is a new book."
"It's not The Warehouse yet. Would you like to order it?"
"Yes."

After that call took opportunity to get a couple of beerss. Now being haunted by David Hasselhoff wanting to know why I recorded Nightrider 2000, yet never watched the tape...

4. Barnes & Noble, Fairfield, CA

Me, "Hi, I want to see if you have a book in stock. I have an ISBN."
Nice girl, "Cool. What's the number?"
"0321413644"
"The DV Rebel's Guide. By Maschwitz."
"Yes."
"It's not in the store. It hasn't been released yet. Looks like it won't be out until January 9th."
"Oh."
"Hmmm, as a matter of fact I don't see any stock in any of our warehouses."
"What does that mean?"
"Well it could be that it's in the warehouse, but hasn't been logged yet due to the holidays, or it could be that the books have yet to arrive from the publisher. Either way we don't have any of those books in any of our warehouses yet. Give me your name and number and we'll call you when it arrives."

Well...so what have I learned:

1. Three different booksellers.
2. None have The Guide in store.
3. All show no stock in their "warehouses"
4. I should have watched that tape.

Time for another beer. Happy New Year!

;-)

hi, not much to add, except the shipping range from amazon seems to fluctuate. sometimes from dec. 26th...which has passed, to march. the last date seems consistent with march 9. i ordered mine a while back and had it grouped with another book. they shipped the other book.

January 1, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterTim

Red Alert!

Peachpit has moved The Guide to a released status on the peachpit.com website!

However, when you go to add the book to the cart the backend order site is having some problems. [this happens with other books as well] Is someone doing some database maintenance???

Light at the end of the tunnel, perhaps.

But I would humbly suggest that communication with peachpit regarding supplies to amazon, bn, borders, etc. be still pursued.

Either way...time for a beer!

;-)

Well, I just got the infamous "March 6" message from Amazon. This is disheartening. What's going on?

Ooh, but now I got the (slightly less infamous) "we shipped your book today and you'll get it Monday" message! Woo hoo!
