Thanks Stu - I thought it might be something like this. I never used the Cds tool for anything other than faux lens flares. This is a nice application for it. Now if only I could make all the 'flames' emit from the center. The way I've got it working so far is with a part moving out from the center and another part moving in - effectively a vortex. Also a cool effect, but not what I was after :-)

Sander, to get something to radiate from the center, put it across the top, pointing downward, and apply the Polar filter set to "Rectangular to Polar." That should do what you want.

Oops, Darrin, you're right. I had animated the angle of the Fast Noise instead of moving the noise vertically. (which was also a cool effect) I've got it covered now. And it looks pretty cool too.
Looks much better than my fake lensflares. A nice foundation to build upon.
Now, where did I leave my particles?
