LA has a subway?

Gage made a subway short using, get this, a video camera (a Panasonic HMC150 to be precise). Apparently people still use those.

Subway Short from Devon Sloan on Vimeo.

As anyone who's read The DV Rebel's Guide knows, I made my subway short ten years ago:

The Green Project from ProLost on Vimeo.

But there must be some mistake because both of these were shot with 1/3" sensors, which everyone knows are worthless.

Oh it's so hard to wade through all the names. LOL. "Brian" is fine.

LOL.

And I think I mentioned about a year and a half ago that I did a scene downtown in a busy business park with a painted gun. Not only did no one care, but we resorted to setting off firecrackers to try to get a crowd reaction to the gun shot, but no one cared. I'll have to, maybe, eventually cut that together.

LA might have a subway but where I live (Christchurch, New Zealand) does not. However I am off to Melbourne, Australia for a long weekend soon and they have trams so I guess I will pack my video camera and see what I can do. Maybe try something Bourne-esque or something totally different.

Re 'Everything's changed again': I really want to say 'yawn' but I do actually hope RED comes up with a ground breaking and affordable camera for the no budget film maker but this time I am not holding my breath.

shrek714The LA subway or Metrorail has a few stations that don't look like subway stations. The Hollywood & Vine station sort of feels like you're walking through an Egyptian pyramid in homage to the movie industry.

That was great but I can't believe he left all that beer. He only took one sip! ;)

more of a taxi short than a subway short http://www.individualeye.com/2008/11/opening/
i post it here as it shows off the LX3 low light capabilities really well, the only light is the reflected light off the video projections at MoMA

I made a short featuring the LA subway (red line) last year with the now defunct andromeda system. It looked great.

Well, I think I'll make a 'subway short' channel on Vimeo now...

Throw it up, Joshua, let's see it!

I love the subways in LA :) they are always so empty - perfect for filming in.

Subway shortfilmmakers, be very cautious out there these days and don't get mistaken (and taken) by the authorities:

2 weekends ago I finished my own subway short.
For the dutch christmas 2008 edition of the 48-hour film festival I submitted a DV-rebel entry. I had to make a movie from script to final edit within 48 hours that contained the following:
genre: Detective / copmovie
Character: Maaike Groothart, VIP
Object: snow
Sentence: 'If you leave can I have your chair?'
And a general christmas-feel.

I shot this with help of 3 friends in a few subway stations without any permit. We were sent off 4 or 5 times by security but managed to finish our shots in time. It was shot entirely on an HV20 wihtout any additional lighting and edited/color corrected on FCP. Another friend composed and played the music for it and 4 guys helped with some visual effects, some visible, others unvisible. Finally a guy from the U.S. that I knew (long live the internet) agreed to do a detective style voice over and so we managed to deliver the film within 48 hours and very little sleep.

I cannot embed the movie in this message, you can view it on http://clarkandnordlander.blogspot.com/
