Rebel Café

Announcing Rebel Café, a forum for discussing issues related to The Guide.

There are a number of ideas in The Guide that could touch off much deeper conversations, and the blog was just starting to feel a little one-way, you know? Check it out and let me know if you think it's a good idea. I may not always be quick to respond in either venue, but at least with the Café there might be another rebel who can help you out.

(Thanks to all the readers who reported in after the last post—I gave the first few folks who emailed a sneak preview of the Café and they seemed to dig it!)

Hey Stu, I oredered your book Monday at B&N.com and now, on Wed, it still hasn't shipped so I cancelled it and ordered it from Peachpit. When you sign up, they give you 20% off so the book is $34.95. I'll have it tomorrow...can't wait!

for whatever reason I don't seem to be have been authorised for rebel cafe - which is fine - its your space after all, I hope you wont mind me commenting to you through this vehicle

The book btw is wonderful, I will certainly be buying some of the books you recommend. A couple of things, in chapter 4 on the DVD you mention using games. You mention various products but you don't mention the whole field of Machinima. I assume that this is simply to big a field to cover - but you might have mentioned products such as Unreal 3 and ID's engines that have extensive additions for Machinima production. Places such as http://www.machinima.org/ help point towards various useful texts. Having been involved in game production (as a a producer many years ago) and more recently in the mod community, my first choice would be to use a 'mod'. However I don't know at this time of much published work going on integrating live action with machinima.

Personally I am still very much an amateur learning DV production (lighting, sound, directing, editing etc) for fun. Its also nice to learn that in the Uk at least one thing is cheaper the US, high grade gaffa's gaffa cost me about $11 a roll and less if I buy in bulk. :)
best wishes to you and thank you for teaching me so much

Kate, thanks for the comment. The key to getting authorized on the café lies in following the anti-spam instructions on the registration page. Sorry for the hassle!
