Rebel Update

Good news abounds!

Amazon now says The Guide "Usually ships within 3 to 6 weeks," which is code for "Hey, it finally occured to us to order some copies of this book that we've been accepting preorders on for over half a year." My insiders say that they should actually be shipping all preorders in about two weeks.

Amazon customers, please post a comment when and if you get a message from Amazon indicating that the March ship dates were a big, hateful lie, designed to cause strife and keep you from making a movie.

Some enterprising Amazon Marketplace sellers have some copies for sale, some of which are available now. Check out "More Buying Choices" on the Amazon product page.

Barnes & Noble show that they ship The Guide within 24 hours. Rock on, BN.

And of course Peachpit is still happy to sell it to you online or at Macworld next week.

Well I finally cancelled my Amazon order and went with Peachpit. Looks like I'll have it on Monday. Joy!

A few days ago I swicthed from Amazon to Barns and Nobel (basically same price) and Barns said they shipped The Guide yesterday.

I ordered the book on presale in late november. They actually sent me yesterday a confirm on the order, stating it will be available around march!!! i had to pass since I'm abroad at that time.. I will buy it later but Amazon's incompetence is overwhelming.

I ordered copies for all of my filmmaker buddies direct from Peachpit. The single copy price was high, but three copies dropped the per unit price down to $22.50! Not bad. And it has shipped. I will have them on Tuesday.

yeah i cancelled my amazon preorder which by the way was from march 2006 hahahaha.
had a gift card from barnes and they said its already shipped. insane but so exciting, can't wait.
thanks again stu.

as of 10:17 central, barnes had it for about 2 bucks cheaper (4 if you were a member) but the shipping is free from amazon, and I don't know about barnes.

All this talk about where to find 'The Guide' for the cheapest price, reminds me of another book I have on filmmaking on the cheap. In it's introduction it states that one way to tell whether you have the right mindset for lowbudget filmmaking is that instead of buying the book, you read it in the book store :-)

For what it is worth, my Amazon order now says "shipping soon"

January 6, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Amazon says my copy will be delivered on monday. Didn't belive them but the tracking number checked out. Will let you know.

Thanks Anonymous, please do!

Curiouser and curiouser...

When I looked at my Order Summary today it states, "Shipping Soon." It goes so far as to state: "We are preparing these items for shipment and this portion of your order cannot be canceled or changed."

My! Good news in a backhanded kind of way. But on the line directly beneath this it says: "Delivery estimate: March 10, 2007 - March 13, 2007." Hmmm....

But never fear, if you go to the book's listing page it assures us: "Availability: Usually ships within 1 to 2 weeks."

It's 10:30 in the morning and I think I need a beer.

Bruce:

Did the beer help? :-)

Are you going to Macworld?

January 7, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterjohn

Yes, John, the beer helped very much. So much in fact that Amazon sent me an e-mail an hour ago telling my that the book has shipped using UPS ground and that it will arrive on Jan. 18, eleven days from now.

(When I selected UPS ground delivery I had assumed they meant "by truck." They obviously meant "by bicycle," and it will be shipping from their Key West, FL. warehouse. But I digress...)

So, have a beer, get a book. It worked for me... ;)

My Amazon account says:
Not Yet Shipped
Shipping estimate: January 9, 2007 - March 5, 2007
Delivery estimate: January 24, 2007 - March 20, 2007

I DO live in Norway but still, that is some major travel time. :)

But it will probably be on its way soon.

Folow up as promised - I got my copy today from Amazon! I'm the luck bastard by the looks of these posts :)

January 8, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

UPS drop it on my porch about an hour ago. After looking it over and checking out the accompanying DVD I almost feel churlish about my whining about my delivery woes. Definitely worth the wait.

Thanks, Stu. And full color no less. That's so rare, it kind of makes you, well, a rebel... ;)

Finally got my copy - after the publisher's delay and the post office losing the parcel - and it looks like it's going to be a corker. Little bit of a shame about the build quality, though - something seems to be awry with finishing of the book closer to the back cover? But. I can't wait to get my teeth into it.
